Projects

This is a work-in-progress page for my projects. I'm hoping to continuing building this out with past and current projects over time.

Audio Journal

I compile an audio journal in the form of monthly playlists on Spotify and call it Jason's Jam Journal. This project started in 2020 and is a rich way to explore how I was feeling in a given month.

My only rule in this project is that I can only use a given song in a single playlist. That means that I'm going through my Discover Weekly each week and listening to song and artist radios to continue finding new music.

My music tastes skew towards genres that have fewer lyrics as I tend to not process them relative to hearing the other musical compontents (base, melody, etc). This means that electronic music is featured heavily (ranging from house to chill to jazztronica and disco) with indie rock, folk, jazz, and rap mixed in.

My latest playlist can always be found at Jason's Jam Journal and my Spotify profile.

Learning to Swim

I started learning to swim in May 2024. At the time, I was afraid to put my face in the water due to almost drowning as a child. After a year of lessons with Chicago Blue Dolphins, I'm swimming laps and continuing to get better every month with support from Effortless Swimming.

My next goal is to good enough to swim with my nearby Master's team. I need to swim 5x100 at 2:00 and am currently around 2:00 pace with a 45 second break between each 100. I'm starting to learn flip turns which should shave off quite a bit of time.

Mental Health

I've been investing in my mental health for many years and currently view it as one of the highest ROI investments one can make. My primary efforts are through weekly psychotherapy with supplemental support as needed in the form of workshops, groups, and retreats. I'm a huge proponent of developing emotional intelligence and resiliancy and can talk about the topic for hours on end.

Angel Investing

I have made a number of angel investments both alongside Vitalize Angels with Gale Wilkinson focused on WorkTech and personally. I love the experience of learning about a new industry and niche from folks who have spent years thinking about it. Some of my favorite active investments include AIRIA (spatial analytics), Groundfloor (community), and Illoominus (HR).

Dating

I've explored dating off and on over the last few years. That's included the apps (primarily Hinge), some in-person events, and referrals through friends. It's generally exhausting but far easier these days now that I have a better understanding of who I am and what I'm looking for. That means that I can take my time until the right potential partner comes along. I'm always open to referrals :)
